Hotel Fasano, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
The location and reasons to visit:
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Go there for the beautiful Ipanema and Copacabana beaches,
the Carnival in February each year, Sugar Loaf Mountain and the views from Corcovado.
But, don’t carry expensive cameras or handbags loosely slung over shoulders or expensive
watches and do keep to busy areas, particularly at night. A trip to Corcovada is
Review of the Hotel Fasaon, Rio de Janeiro:
Yes, it is expensive, but it is really good. Try the local Bohemia beer in the Baretto
Londra bar (served by the lovely Lara when I was there). The rooms are small, but
to very high standards, but it is essential to have a room at the front of the hotel
that overlooks Ipanema Beach.
In the evenings, locals and tourists gather outside to see celebrities who often
stay there. It was fun to go out into my balcony at the front of the hotel wearing
dark glasses at about 8pm and wait until people below looked up, nudged their friends
and pointed at me, when I would hide my face and run back in to the room, as though
I was in some way famous.
Go out for a walk at about 7.30pm, return at 8.30pm and walk straight to the front
of the queue of the local, immaculately-dressed Brazilian male and female models
queuing to get into the hotel, show your hotel Fasano card and be let in immediately,
dressed as I was in jeans and a t-shirt, and they will be really jealous of you.
An entire floor of the hotel was taken up by a famous American singer and his entourage,
when I was there.
