Calgary and Banff, and the Fairmont Palliser, Canada
The location and reasons to visit:
Calgary, Alberta, Western Canada. Banff is about 1.5 hours’ drive from Calgary along
excellent roads with amazing, really amazing views all along the way. Calgary and
Banff people are so, so nice, friendly and they all seem really happy. Visit there
for great people, great food and some of the best scenery I’ve ever seen in the world.
Calgary was an amazingly clean city.
Review of the Fairmont Palliser, Calgary:
This was the first time I’d stayed in a Fairmont hotel. The people were excellent,
friendly, knowledgeable and very efficient. The internet was complimentary for people
in ‘Gold’ rooms. The Gold lounge had ‘free’ tea, coffee and snacks during the day.
The Gold bedroom was dark and depressing, due largely to the fact that it overlooked
a courtyard with other rooms opposite. There was a connecting door between my room
and the one next door. Okay, it was firmly locked, but it seemed to be a single door,
so that conversations from the adjoining door were easily overheard.
In every other hotel I’ve stayed at in the world, access to the executive lounge
means that at between, say 5 and 7pm when canapes are served, alcohol is ‘free’.
Not in the Gold lounge at the Calgary Fairmont Palliser, where all alcoholic drinks
had to be paid for - and at seriously inflated prices.
Calgary was a fantastic place and a great base to explore the local area, but if
I went again I would choose a different hotel. During the days I met up again with
the best friend I’ve ever had in my life, so even the dark depressing room I was
in at night didn’t destroy the great times we spent together during the day times,
in Calgary and Banff.
