Blanket Bay Lodge, New Zealand
The location and reasons to visit:
Just 40 minutes’ drive from Queenstown, New Zealand, South Island. The highly scenic
drive is alongside Lake Wakatipu, and Blanket Bay Lodge is set at the north end of
the lake amongst New Zealand’s best scenery.
Review of the Blanket Bay Lodge, New Zealand:
Amazing. Quite honestly, it’s an amazing place and one of my favourites on this whole
planet. The food, service, location, scenery and every aspect of Blanket Bay is truly
The buildings are constructed from local wood and stone and the rooms and suites
are luxurious. I stayed in a chalet suite in the grounds, with spectacular views
over the lake and snow-capped mountain peaks. There is plenty to do, for those who
like activities, although my choice was for the peace and solitude of the chalet
suite. There’s a well-equipped gym, a games room and various activities from fly-fishing,
heli-fishing, heli-skiing, hiking, horse riding, jet-boating, helicopter tours to
Milford Sound which also land on glacial ice and mountain-tops, plus others.
The package price includes a most delicious breakfast, all soft drinks and pre-dinner
drinks and cocktails, together with a fantastic gourmet evening meal prepared by
a chef who certainly knows how to prepare some of the most delicious food I’ve experienced
anywhere in the world.
Blanket Bay is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group and absolutely
justifies its inclusion in the organisation. A brilliant place.
